ballpoint pen on paper, fm radio transmissions

The Radio Pen Drawing series was inspired by a cheap-yet-intriguing consumer product found in the discount bin at a big box store. This device features an am/fm radio receiver built into a ballpoint pen. i thought the design is a poignant gesture and cleverly articulated the creative process, making the radio pen a hybrid of inspiration and production.

i decided to purchase this radio pen and use it in my studio, making drawings that were inspired by the music being broadcast on various radio stations, essentially making the pen a conduit, and me a translator.

Unfortunately, the pen ran out of ink+stopped working rather soon after i brought it to the studio, these four drawings are all that the radio pen produced.
